Principle #3 - Supportive Practices and Making Things Concrete
Prior to Small Group
Research Reading
This week we are going to start with the reading away from your textbook.
- First, you should read our supplemental materials about Supportive Practices
Textbook Readings
Only then, read pp 32-43 from BBCP As you do, consider how some of the concepts in these materials tie back to the concept of Supportive Practices.
- Culturally Relevant Pedagogy
- Learning Through Making
- ScratchMaths: Integrating Computing and Mathematics
- Scratch Encore: A culturally Relevant Scratch Curriculum
- "Engineers Make Things That Help People"
- Don't Touch the Plugs or Break Anything
Write
I would actually like you to produce two reflections this week.
Supportive Practices
This response is specifically targeting the "Supportive Practices" document that you read for this week. As you read the "article" on supportive practices I would like you to take notes regarding what stands out to you in each of the sections. Then, to help you start to make sense of the week's readings as a whole, I would like you to complete a reading reflection based on "the MANIC approach" :
- Share with your partners in your group's shared drive.
- Do not to submit to me until after your SG meetup.
Textbook Reflection
As you read the assigned textbook readings this week I would like you to take notes regarding what stands out to you in each of the sections. Then, to help you start to make sense of the week's readings as a whole, I would like you to complete a reading reflection based on "the countdown approach"
- Share with your partners in your group's shared drive.
- Do not to submit to me until after your SG meetup.
At the Small Group
At the meetup this week you should
- Discuss the Supportive Practices materials [~30 minutes]
