Other Halls: Aztec, Olmec, and Oaxaca

From our photos of the other halls in the Museo Nacional de Antropología, we've selected only a few photos that relate to some of our study on the MAA Mathematical Tour of Mayan Mexico.

The display case contains an Aztec codex, clearly showing the dimensions and accordion-style folding of a typical codex.

Outside the Olmec Hall, we reminisced about our walk through Parque La Venta in Villahermosa. The weather in Mexico City was cooler and drier (how could it not be!), but this reproduction didn't compare to the original.

A pre-classical Mayan example of the use of the "bars and points" numeration system, from Oaxaca around 500 BCE. The explanatory text is shown below. "Stela 12 has not been deciphered precisely and surely commemorates a relevant historical event."
